Friesach denars – coinage of the Carinthian mining town
The Friesach denar is a hallmark type of the medieval Austrian lands. Struck in large quantities during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, it offers a wealth of die varieties. We document die types, crest and cross variants and scarcer marks.
Systematic organisation by type is recommended, with close attention to centring which is crucial for thin flans. References to regional literature and auction parallels are provided.
All pieces are photographed in natural light to show patina and surface character.
